Over Hong Kong
i SUN HUNG KAI PROPERTIES Kwok Ping-luen, Raymond Chairman and Managing Director Sun Hung Kai Properties Sun Hung Kai Properties 45 Years of Growth with Hong Kong ( 1972 - 2017 ) FOREWORD Hong Kong is my home. I was born here and have spent most of my life here. In my younger days, my father took me to see many places of the territory – from traditional villages, lush countryside and sparkling seascapes to narrow shopping alleys and the hustle and bustle of our vibrant city. I learned to appreciate the many different facets of Hong Kong – its history, its scenic beauty, the tranquillity of the countryside and the dynamism of its business districts. Everywhere one looks, there is a scene to delight the eye. Looking through this magnificent photo story of Hong Kong, I am convinced more than ever that Hong Kong and the people here, with their amazing vitality and resilience, would only grow to become more successful. While my business is to continue building quality spaces for people to live and work in and to enjoy, I have a broader concern for the well-being and development of the people of Hong Kong, especially our younger generations who will one day become the pillars of our society. Care for the people and the place where we all live is the spirit underlining my company’s motto of Building Homes with Heart . It is the very basis of our philosophy. My job, indeed my passion, is to make sure that we mean what we say, that is building homes with heart. Preserving the beauty of Hong Kong truly is at the heart of what we do. This is why we always set the high standards of quality for our products and services. The wonderful photographs on these pages, mostly taken from the air, offer an unusual and dramatic perspective of how Hong Kong – and our Group – has evolved over the years. Indeed they recall many of the fond memories I have when my father took me to see how the buildings developed by our Group were built in the early days. Many of these demonstrated my father’s belief of growing the company with Hong Kong and his foresight as a pioneer, like the Sun Hung Kai Centre that has become a landmark on the Wanchai North waterfront, and the New Town Plaza of Shatin that was the first large-scale integrated development in early 1980s. They transport us into a previous era while also providing a glimpse of progress yet to come. They remind me very much of why Hong Kong is, and will remain, my home. Horizontal Lockup (English)
