Over Hong Kong

OVER HONG KONG iv As manufacturing industry moved across the border, the demand changed. Instead of simple working space, hi-tech industry and the ever-growing services sector needed intelligent buildings. In keeping with its corporate culture of continuous improvement, SHKP recognised this and transformed old buildings into environmentally friendly, new technology ones like the CEO Tower (2011) bottom left and W668 (2017) bottom right in West Kowloon. The year of completion is in brackets beside each project name throughout. In the early days of the 1970s, Sun Hung Kai Properties’ roots lay in the mundane working world. China had not yet opened up and Hong Kong’s economy was heavily manufacturing-based. Industry needs space in which to work and the demand for factory buildings was very high. This presented SHKP with an opportunity and a challenge; the challenge, to meet the demand; the opportunity, to make a valuable contribution to Hong Kong by accepting the challenge. The Prince Industrial Building far left , in San Po Kong, and Vigor Industrial Building left in Tsing Yi are examples of the developments that accommodated businesses both large and small.
