Over Hong Kong
OVER HONG KONG xvi Opposite page International Finance Centre The building of the new airport in the 1990s rather surprisingly changed the face of the Central Business District. The need for reclamation to house the Airport Express railway also opened up space for new commercial development which became the International Finance Centre complex, incorporating One IFC, Two IFC, IFC Mall, Four Seasons Hotel and Four Seasons Place. On its completion, Two IFC supplanted Central Plaza as the tallest building in the city. The main photograph shows three key SHKP projects, IFC, Central Plaza and Sun Hung Kai Centre, each of which was in turn Hong Kong’s tallest building. Traditionally an industrial area, Ngau Tau Kok and Kwun Tong top left , went into decline when manufacturing companies re-located to the Mainland. Understanding the increasing demands for high- quality commercial space, the Group saw an opportunity to transform the area into a new commercial centre. Millennium City 1 (1998) top right is the largest office complex in the cluster with Standard Chartered Bank as a core occupant. Millennium City 5 (2004), bottom left , is currently the flagship of the project, incorporating state-of-the-art design and technology to create a remarkable environment for business. Grand Century Place (1997) bottom right is one of the Group’s prestigious commercial portfolios in Mongkok, atop the MOKO mall.
