OVER HONG KONG xxii The early 1980s saw the extension of the Group’s interests from commercial and residential with a foray into the hotel business. The hotel chain operated by the Group was given the name “Royal” as an indication to potential guests that they could expect the very best in 5-star accommodation and service. The first Royal property, The Royal Garden (1981) top left opened in Tsim Sha Tsui East. Specifically an urban hotel aimed primarily at the business market, it set the standards of service and facilities which became a point of reference for the chain as it expanded. The Group owns many hotel properties that are operated by prestigious international franchises. The Ritz-Carlton (2011) top centre occupies the top 17 floors of ICC. It boasts the highest bar in the world at 484m above ground level. W Hong Kong (2008) top right is a spectacular trendy hotel occupying 25 floors in The Cullinan II, in West Kowloon. On Hong Kong Island, the 45-storey Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong (2005) right is a luxury hotel in the IFC complex, offering the utmost in quality and comfort. The newest property in SHKP’s portfolio, is Hotel Vic (2018) far right , part of the integrated waterfront development in North Point.
