SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation supports Sichuan Rural Doctor Training Programme 06.08.2019 SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation Director Christopher Kwok (front right) and Hong Kong Poverty Alleviation Association President Karson Choi (front left) sign a donation agreement Recently, the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation made a donation to the Hong Kong Poverty Alleviation Association to support a rural doctor training programme in Nanjiang County, in Bazhong, Sichuan. About 500 rural doctors in the county will receive five terms of training courses. Upon completing the training and passing an examination, the doctors will be qualified to provide healthcare services in the underprivileged county.

The programme nurtures the growth of young people and helps broaden their future. Various new elements have been added to the programme this year to meet changing needs, ensuring that the younger generation can explore the world at ease to create their own future. There are 20 young participants in the Modern Apprenticeship Programme 2019. At the programme's kick-off ceremony, SHKP Executive Director Adam Kwok said, "It is best to explore our aptitudes while young. So this year, the programme has expanded its target group to students aged 16 or above to help them find their aspirations earlier for better life planning." 18 colleagues from different SHKP departments and subsidiaries will mentor the young people by sharing work-related knowledge during the apprentices' four-week internship. The programme also allows the apprentices to 'explore' and 'put into practice' what they have learned; for example, apprentices will work as interns in different NGOs and visit social enterprises to broaden their horizons. Under the mentors' guidance, the apprentices will be encouraged to set goals and work towards achieving their dreams.

SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation anti-poverty project for students and residents in Dingxi, Gansu 15.07.2019 The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has always devoted a lot of effort to nurturing the younger generation. Recently, a delegation went to Dingxi in Gansu to inspect the results of the Foundation's anti-poverty work for students and residents. The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation established a scholarship programme for Lintao Middle School in Dingxi, Gansu in 2015, offering high school education to 220 financially disadvantaged but deserving high school students. The student beneficiaries have done a good job, with 89% of them last year admitted by different universities across the country for further education. The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has extended its reach to providing underprivileged farming families there with clean drinking water. Led by SHKP Independent Non-Executive Director Dr. Norman Leung and SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation Associate Director Terry Li, the delegation visited Da'an Village in Weiyuan, where the Foundation sponsored a project to pipe in drinking water for local farming families. Since 2015, the Foundation has helped bring safe and clean drinking water to over 1,100 underprivileged families in more than 10 farming villages in Lintao and Weiyuan counties, in Dingxi.

The weCare Inclusive Volunteering Scheme encourages self-reliance 05.07.2019 The SHKP Volunteer Team is committed to helping those in need to help themselves to build an inclusive community. Through partnering with the Christian Family Service Centre, the weCare Inclusive Volunteering Scheme provides systematic volunteer training programmes for young people with special needs. The SHKP Volunteer Team recently organized a farming activity at SHKP's PARK YOHO development for young trainees, enabling the trainees and SHKP volunteers to bond. They will harvest the vegetables later and turn them into snacks to distribute as gifts when visiting elderly people.

The volunteers visited senior singles and couples living in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, and Shek Kip Mei Estate in Sham Shui Po, spending warm and happy times together.
