The pandemic has brought virtual sports competitions into the mainstream. Dedicated to supporting cycling sports development, SHKP has kept abreast of the rising metaverse trend and recently organized five sessions of the SHKP Supernova Virtual Series Race. Even though outdoor cycling training is not possible during the pandemic, the virtual races have provided a valuable training opportunity for the riders to maintain their best condition.
About 110 local and international riders and 12 cycling teams participated in the cycling race, comprising individual and team classifications, the latter was added in the virtual race for the first time. Through a cycling app, the cyclists entered the metaverse and competed with each other in various landscapes, including mountains, beaches, cities and forests. The races helped the cyclists build up their fitness, boost morale, and prepare them for physical races that will resume following the pandemic.
