Sanfield organizes a Summer Internship Programme to nurture talent for the construction industry

18.09.2023

To help the construction industry nurture talent, SHKP's Sanfield Construction (Sanfield) organizes the Summer Internship Programme every year. This year, Sanfield recruited 72 university students in Hong Kong. During the internships, the students gained hands-on experience in state-of-the-art technology applications in the industry and visited the Greater Bay Area (GBA) to broaden their horizons and acquire valuable work experience, thus laying a solid foundation for their future career development.

The recruited undergraduates this year are studying at various universities, such as The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and are majoring in civil engineering, structural engineering, building construction, quantity surveying, electrical engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering and safety, and related subjects. This year, Sanfield arranged a visit to SHKP's factories and  residential development in the GBA for the interns to learn about SHKP's strict quality requirements in its developments. In the recent graduation ceremony and sharing session of the Summer Internship Programme, SHKP Executive Director Adam Kwok said the visit aimed to broaden the interns’ horizons and enrich their understanding of the GBA to help them ride on the development opportunities of the country in the future.

During the internship, under the instruction of seasoned colleagues, the students took part in various construction processes and acquired hands-on experience with some of the advanced technologies applied in the existing projects. For instance, they used a drone to take photographs and collect data, leveraged Building Information Modelling (BIM) to create a realistic 4D model and experienced virtual reality. These experiences allow them to see how these innovative technologies provide convenience to construction industry practitioners. After the Summer Internship Programme, the students said they gained comprehensive knowledge of the industry and valuable experience through the programme, and hoped to reach their full potential in their future careers.
