In order to encourage children to make reading a habit and to cultivate their creativity, the SHKP Reading Club organized "Read to Dream" at the recent Hong Kong Book Fair for the eleventh year running.
This year, the "Read to Dream" programme sponsored over 1,300 disadvantaged primary and secondary students to visit the Book Fair. Accompanied by SHKP and St. James' Settlement volunteers, each student received a HK$250 SHKP subsidy to bring their favourite books home. The SHKP Reading Club also staged a celebrity talk featuring SHKP Marketing Director Edgar Yang, legendary Hong Kong cyclist Wong Kam-po, as well as e-sports management executive Clearence Cheung. The three guests shared their inspiring experiences on how reading had aided them in their growth as individuals and helped them face challenges in life.
A talk entitled – "Reading on the Journey" was also held by the Club with four travel veterans who enjoy reading and writing. The speakers shared their unique travel-with-books journeys. Moreover, Young Writers' Debut Competition winner RedTeeth also led a creative workshop to coach students in the art of 4-panel comic drawing.
