In 2003, the SARS outbreak in Hong Kong brought misery to the entire local community. In an effort to promote positive energy throughout the territory, the SHKP Volunteer Team was set up to help people in need. Time flies and the Team has now been established for more than 10 years. To mark their 15th anniversary this year, a recognition ceremony was recently held in which numerous awards were presented to outstanding volunteers of the Team.
In addition to the participation of SHKP management and staff, their families and friends as well as residents in SHKP properties have long been encouraged to join in the Team's volunteer work. The Team has also partnered with the Social Welfare Department, various social welfare organizations and volunteer teams from other corporations in order to help build a caring and inclusive society together.
The Team has put in about 1.1 million hours of service and aided over 500,000 people since its inception. During this year's ceremony, 393 volunteers and 30 volunteer families were presented with awards in recognition of their active contributions to volunteer work during the past year.
