Convert calories burned into donations at the SHKP Sports for Charity Carnival

23.10.2019

It is said that when we exercise, our body releases endorphin, which makes us happy. The company recently held the SHKP Sports for Charity Carnival at the Hong Kong Velodrome, allowing SHKP colleagues and over a thousand members of the public to have fun exercising together. The company turned the calories burned by the participants that day into donations to support charity projects for children and young people.

There were 16 interesting sports activities at the event, including a virtual cycling world championship, an experiential game of vertical running and the SHKP Cycling Academy 4km ride challenge, enjoyed by SHKP colleagues and members of the public of all ages. The organizer also invited about 200 people, including children, young people and their families who are beneficiaries of different charity organizations, to participate in the event and compete for prizes. With the sports-for-charity theme, SHKP transformed the roughly 60,000 calories burned by all participants that day into donations of about HK$3 million to help children and young people in need.

There were also a number of exciting races at the carnival, such as a balance bike competition with over 200 child participants, a track cycling race for young athletes, and a joint-school stationary bike race with 16 secondary school teams competing. Sports stars Wong Kam-po and Chan Ka-ho shared their inspiring stories at the event.

A video series promoting the sports-for-charity spirit and positive energy through sports has been rolled out in parallel. The first three videos are now available on the newly launched Sports-for-Charity website. Please visit www.sportsforcharity.com for details and viewing.
