Despite the pandemic over the past year, the SHKP Volunteer Team has continued to be actively involved in serving the community. The team made timely adjustments to fight the virus with the underprivileged by reducing contact and even adopting contactless methods. Recently, the team won an Honour award in the Highest Service Hour Award in 2019 (Private Organizations - Category 1), organized by the Social Welfare Department. This is the 14th consecutive year the team was awarded the honour.
The team delivered anti-pandemic items a number of times to help meet urgent needs. In place of in-person visits, the team talked and interacted with the underprivileged by phone or the Internet. In addition, they created and distributed hand-painted mask holders to the elderly to spread some joy during the pandemic. Last year, the team provided free pre-move-in inspection and basic renovation work for singleton elderly, the disabled and single-parent families moving into Fu Shan Estate and Tung Wui Estate because of redevelopment. The team also trained community volunteer partners to provide move-in support for those in need, promote community mutual aid services, and pass on SHKP's caring spirit.
