The 10-week 'Modern Apprenticeship Programme' sponsored by Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) and co-hosted by Breakthrough has concluded. Recently, SHKPNews interviewed Assistant Club Supervisor Jacob and his apprentice, Trevor, at The Wings.
A Challenge for myself
At the beginning, Trevor wanted to challenge himself to make punctuality a habit through this internship. But soon he realized that there were far more challenges waiting for him during his work. At first, Trevor thought working in the clubhouse required nothing more than managing club facilities, handling residents' registrations for the facilities, and dealing with their enquiries and complaints. Later on, he realized that he had to take to care of serving, bartending and even dishwashing at the club restaurant!
Trevor said that there were unexpected tasks awaiting him every day at work, such as fixing lockers in the changing room and making drinks at the bar. He felt inadequate and tried his best to learn. In the end, his efforts paid off as he gained a great deal of confidence and new skills in just two months!
Building teamwork
"Trevor is very outgoing, proactive and willing to learn, which makes him very suitable for customer service. Of course, he does have a few weaknesses as well, such as being impatient and careless sometimes, but he's able to fix these faults very quickly after being reminded," says Mentor Jacob. During this internship, what makes Trevor extra grateful and memorable is that Jacob and other colleagues kept teaching and assisting him with utmost patience. He gained a lot of hands-on experience about teamwork.
