SmarTone launches 5G Ednovation Programme

26.01.2023
SmarTone launches 5G Ednovation Programme 26.01.2023 5G technology has led the world into a new era. To help the new generation seize the new opportunities, SmarTone recently launched the "SmarTone 5G Ednovation Programme", which integrates education and innovation to provide schools with diversified 5G solutions to assist teachers with their teaching and stimulate students' passion for STEM learning. SmarTone is providing smart administration and class management systems and tailor-made 5G smart learning solutions to three pilot schools: HKSKH Bishop Hall Secondary School, Kowloon Bay St. John The Baptist Catholic Primary School and Man Kwan Pak Kau College. For example, SmarTone is helping HKSKH Bishop Hall Secondary Hall implement a "5G Smart Hydroponics Planting System", which is equipped with 4K cameras and a series of sensors. The system uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse various data to provide the participating students with advice on how to care for the plants, while helping them understand how 5G technology can transform modern agriculture practices. SmarTone also helped the school acquire funding from the Office of the Communications Authority's (OFCA) "Subsidy Scheme for Encouraging Early Deployment of 5G" for its "5G Smart Hydroponics Planting System". SmarTone introduced a "5G Power-Saving Bus Classroom" in Kowloon Bay St. John The Baptist Catholic Primary School, which received a donation of a retired double-decker bus from KMB in 2019. Using a 5G high-speed network to create an Internet of Things (IoT) platform, SmarTone converted the bus into a 5G classroom to provide students with an opportunity to enjoy a low latency VR experience. In Man Kwan Pak Kau College, SmarTone built a "5G Smart Terrarium" for raising turtles. The facility uses a 5G network to collect various real-time data on the environment, including water contamination and abnormalities in the water level. It can also control the lighting system by remote control and calculate the number of views. SmarTone will continue to collaborate with more schools and organizations in the future to stimulate the young generation's passion for learning and nurture more technological talent, thus helping Hong Kong develop into a smart city.

Tin Wing project garners the gold prize in the Safety Award Scheme 05.10.2022 Maintaining safety in the work environment is a top priority for SHKP. Recently, Yee Fai Construction, one of SHKP's construction arms, won the gold prize in the Building Sites (Private Sector) category in the Construction Industry Safety Award Scheme 2021/2022 for introducing a series of safety installations and measures for the Tin Wing project in Tin Shui Wai. During the construction planning stage, the construction team for the Tin Wing project made safety one of the important considerations of the plan. For settings and systems, the team explored many safety construction and management methods to reduce the amount of high-risk construction work and mitigate potential safety risks. For example, the team improved the air quality of the area below ground by ensuring the ventilation system operating with eight-times-per-hour air-change rate. Smart helmet is also adopted to monitor the workers' real-time health condition and location to reduce accidents. The team also implemented a number of other measures, which resulted in zero accidents and zero penalty tickets in the Tin Wing project.

Sanfield Summer Internship Programme strengthens innovative technology to nurture talent for the construction industry

Sanfield Summer Internship Programme strengthens innovative technology to nurture talent for the construction industry 13.09.2022 There are 82 university students taking part in this year's Sanfield Summer Internship Programme To nurture talent for the construction industry, Sanfield Construction (Sanfield), SHKP's construction arm, organized a Summer Internship Programme to provide college students studying construction engineering-related subjects with extensive hands-on experience and opportunities to learn about the latest technology applied in construction. This year, 82 university students took part in the internship programme. After working with the experienced colleagues, most of them are interested in working at Sanfield to build a career after graduation. Nurturing over 220 interns during the pandemic Owing to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is difficult for young people to find a job. To help young people equip themselves with skills and experience before entering the workforce, since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020, Sanfield has increased the quota for the internship programme and has trained 227 interns in total. This year, the programme received an overwhelming response, with more than 180 applications. The recruited undergraduates are studying at various colleges, such as The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The University of Hong Kong, and majoring in civil engineering, structural engineering, building construction, building services engineering, quantity surveying, electrical engineering, fire engineering, drainage and air-conditioner engineering, and other related fields. Integrating innovation and technology elements Under the instruction of their seasoned colleagues, the interns took part in different construction processes and acquired hands-on experience in the workplace. In addition, to offer the interns opportunities to get experience with the latest construction-related technology, Sanfield arranged a one-week Building Information Modelling (BIM) course to help them learn how to apply BIM in daily operations. For instance, they uploaded data recorded by a drone to the BIM and used the installation to see how the BIM is visualized in the virtual reality. At the graduation ceremony of the Sanfield Summer Internship Programme, SHKP Executive Director Adam Kwok said, "With more innovative technologies being applied in the construction industry, we hope that the interns can learn both basic construction knowledge and more about the latest technology. This will help enhance their competitiveness to complement innovation and technology development in Hong Kong."

Sun Hung Kai Centre introduces new, efficient smart management system

09.09.2022
Sun Hung Kai Centre introduces new, efficient smart management system 09.09.2022 The Sun Hung Kai Centre property management team keeps up with the latest technology advances and actively promotes intelligent and digital management. Recently, the team introduced the Building Information Modelling – Facility Management (BIM-FM) platform, which collects and integrates various information about the building, such as operational efficiency and daily management data. With this innovative platform, this 40-year-old building has entered the new era of smart management. The BIM-FM platform is usually applied in new buildings. However, SHKP’s subsidiaries, Hong Yip and Lik Kai Engineering, jointly developed the BIM-FM platform, which was tailor-made for Sun Hung Kai Centre, the company's headquarters, to enhance its ESG performance. They conducted a thorough laser scan of the building, and collected and surveyed various data about the building, such as the exterior and the structure, from different angles to create a 3D BIM with extremely high precision. Through the platform, the management team acquired comprehensive data about the building's performance and then conducted a big data analysis of the building maintenance and energy efficiency to adjust the management strategy appropriately. The platform has greatly increased energy efficiency and maintenance effectiveness of the building. Looking forward, Hong Yip will introduce BIM-FM platform for other commercial buildings it manages and build an efficient smart-management network. These technologies help the management team identify and analyse potential risks, and predict and plan operation and maintenance issues early to reduce the likelihood of emergency accidents and mitigate the impact on its clients, in addition to creating a comfortable and safe work environment.

International Commerce Centre leverages the 'metaverse' concept to create a new normal in property management 01.09.2022 SHKP's property management subsidiary Kai Shing often introduces innovative technology applications to enhance service quality and work efficiency. International Commerce Centre (ICC) introduced the innovative, avant-garde 'metaverse' concept and integrated it into the equipment and tools used by frontline staff in daily operation. Applying augmented reality in management and maintenance work ICC is now applying augmented reality technology in daily security patrols, facilities management and training. The management team uses a laser scanner and a three-dimensional camera to scan the whole building thoroughly to acquire its virtual environment information. The team members can then see the combination of virtual information and facilities data with the real world views through smart glasses or intelligent installations and report various information such as patrol time, abnormal points and inspection record. The new technology streamlines the process, reduces the labour cost and enhances the operational efficiency. In addition, ICC has also applied other new technologies to greatly enhance management and energy efficiency:
