Beneficiary students of SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation anti-poverty projects express gratitude 23.02.2021 The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation is committed to supporting the country's poverty-alleviation initiatives. Through establishing different scholarship and support programmes, it helps outstanding students from disadvantaged families pursue undergraduate studies. Every year, the Foundation receives many letters of gratitude from beneficiary universities and students, including Guizhou University, which has collaborated with the Foundation for over 16 years. Guizhou used to be the province with the highest rate of poverty in the country. Since late last year, 66 underprivileged counties of the province have been raised from poverty. The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation set up a scholarship programme with Guizhou University in 2004. For the programme, the Foundation has donated nearly RMB13 million and benefitted more than 2,000 students to date. The university recently sent a letter of gratitude to the Foundation for helping to move Guizhou out of poverty. East Point City management office team removes bee hive 19.01.2021 While one bee in your home is enough to make you scream, just the thought of a whole swarm of bees in your home can give you goosebumps. A family in East Point City recently encountered this nightmare scenario – a gigantic bee hive hanging right outside their window. One day, a swarm of the buzzing "neighbours" even flew inside to visit the residents! With her son in her arms, the occupant ran out the door to seek help from the management office. In no time, a team armed in protective gear arrived at the scene. When the door to the apartment opened again, not only had the bees vanished, but the hive had been removed. Even more surprising, when the professional insect repellent team removed their protective gear, the occupant recognized they are the team in the management office she sees every day! During meetings with pest control companies, the East Point City management office team always ask for advice on how to deal with insects in emergency situations. So the team was unflappable and handled the situation professionally. Commended by residents, the team is now even more determined to continue to make good use of their knowledge to provide premium, comprehensive management services.

SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation sponsors the Rural Doctor Training Programme in Sichuan 31.12.2020 The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation endeavours to help the underprivileged. Recently, the Foundation donated RMB1.5 million to the Hong Kong Poverty Alleviation Association to sponsor the Rural Doctor Training Programme in Nanjiang county, in Bazhong, Sichuan, to improve local medical services. The training programme, organized by the Nanjiang County Health Bureau, provided five terms of training courses from 2018 to 2020 for about 500 rural doctors in the county. The courses covered both theoretical knowledge and practical training, including basic medical knowledge, public health knowledge, treatment of common diseases in rural villages, first-aid knowledge and the country's poverty alleviation measures in the healthcare sector. To ensure service quality, only rural doctors who passed the programme's assessment would be qualified for the village's healthcare service.

SHKP Reading Club seminar – 'How do performers enjoy reading?' 26.11.2020 Reading is not necessarily an individual activity. It can be a way to broaden horizons through interacting with others. Recently, the SHKP Reading Club organized a seminar, titled 'How do performers enjoy reading?' The four main actors in a play called Verdict – Stephen Chan, Simon Ngai, Patra Au and Ivy Lau – were invited to speak at the seminar, with Ivy Lau also serving as the hostess. They shared useful screenplay memory hacks and effective reading tips with the participants. Acting in a live play is not an easy job since no bloopers or even slight hesitation is acceptable. To put on a good show, the actors must memorize and recite every word and line in the play extremely well and naturally. Memorization, which helps the four guests with their acting, can also help young people study. While education today places more importance on analysis than on memorization, reciting helps deepen the memory. SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation sponsors solar-powered street lights in poor villages 23.11.2020 The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has recently provided funding of RMB300,000 to install solar-powered street lights in villages in Dingxi, Gansu, an extreme poverty area in the country. The project allows residents to go out safely at night, which benefits 700 local families and will benefit their future generations. The Nagu, Liujiahe and Chatao villages are at 2,300 –2,700 metres above sea level, located in Puma township in Min county, one of the national-level poverty-stricken counties. Before the solar-powered street lights were installed, the local residents would get hurt easily if they went out after sunset without bringing any fire torches or flashlights. It was also risky for primary school students to go to school in the dark at winter dawns. The lights made it convenient for residents to go out at night and enhanced the living conditions of the villages. The 'Light Movement' has motivated other poor neighbouring rural villages to install street lights. SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation Executive Director Amy Kwok said she was pleased that the project had a positive impact on people's livelihood in rural areas. Over the years, the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation is committed to alleviating poverty in Gansu by developing different projects, which have achieved successful results, including English lessons for the officials, secondary school scholarship programmes, piping in drinking water, and the recent solar-powered street light installation.

Colleagues actively participate in Community Chest Dress Casual Day 04.11.2020 SHKP colleagues are always happy to do good deeds. The annual Community Chest Dress Casual Day received an enthusiastic response, with a total of 27 departments participating in the event. Participants went to work in casual dress to raise funds for the Community Chest to help those in need in the community.

SHKP Volunteer Team knits for the elderly for 13 consecutive years 29.10.2020 Play/Pause Stop Mute/Unmute Vol+ Vol- Fullscreen Many would agree that hand-knitted garments are the warmest. Since 2008, the SHKP Volunteer Team has invited staff and their families to volunteer to hand knit scarves and hats to distribute to elderly people in need during visits every winter. To date, about 70,000 people have benefitted. A lot of volunteers have made good use of their lunch break and time after work to hand knit at least 6,000 warm garments for the elderly to enjoy a cozy winter this year.

The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation presents scholarships and encourages students to continue to improve 23.10.2020 In 2009, the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation set up a scholarship programme at Tianjin University to sponsor talented students from underprivileged families to pursue undergraduate degrees. The programme has benefitted over 1,700 students to date. We recently received good news about two student beneficiaries: Guan Shiwei, class of 2017 in the School of Civil Engineering, and Cui Bohan, in the School of Mathematics, were awarded Tianjin University's Top 10 Improvement Stars. Both students have achieved outstanding academic performance, and have shown commendable improvement and a caring spirit.

The Building Homes with Heart Caring Initiative supports the underprivileged amid the pandemic 25.09.2020 For more than half a year, the pandemic has brought many challenges to the daily life of the general public. To support people in need in the community, SHKP's Building Homes with Heart Caring Initiative has delivered anti-pandemic items to underprivileged families and elderly people during the past months through different means to show its care and fight the virus together. Anti-pandemic gift bags for the underprivileged during the Mid-Autumn Festival As the Mid-Autumn Festival is fast approaching, the SHKP Volunteer Team worked with the Caritas Integrated Family Service Centre – Shaukeiwan, the HKFWS North Point Integrated Family Service Centre, and the HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre to distribute gift bags to underprivileged families in the Island East and Kwai Tsing districts. The gift bags contained mooncakes, stationery, hand sanitizers, and other items. SHKP also distributed festive food and personal protection items to elderly people residing in Sham Shui Po under the Redevelopment of Pak Tin Estate - Neighbourhood Support Programme with NAAC Shamshuipo District Elderly Community Centre to help them enjoy the festival with peace of mind. The projects benefitted 12,000 people. Check-in calls and surgical mask delivery The SHKP Volunteer Team continues to provide different types of support amid the pandemic. In view of the disruption to social life faced by many elderly people during the pandemic because of social distancing, the Team offered timely support in different ways, such as phoning elderly people to check in with them and show emotional support. In place of in-person visits, the Team delivered surgical masks to the mailbox of elderly people to show their concern.
