Since the novel coronavirus outbreak, SHKP has taken various measures to prevent and combat the epidemic. Recently, it successfully purchased surgical masks from overseas. The company swiftly distributed the masks to SHKP colleagues, the Hospital Authority and various social welfare organizations to help in the fight against the coronavirus.
The company cares for its staff. It provided over 300,000 surgical masks for all headquarters staff and frontline staff of its subsidiaries within days of receiving them. SHKP also donated and delivered 280,000 surgical masks to the Hospital Authority. In view of the needs of specific disadvantaged groups in society, such as the elderly, underprivileged families, and children with illnesses, SHKP donated about 40,000 surgical masks to seven organizations, including the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council, the Hong Chi Association, and the J Life Foundation. SHKP volunteers delivered the surgical masks to the offices of the various social welfare organizations, and the organizations will distribute the masks to people in urgent need in the coming days.

SHKP and the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council announced recently their cooperation in developing a transitional housing project, United Court in Tung Tau, Yuen Long. Upon expected completion in 2022, it will provide a comfortable home for 1,600 underprivileged families. It is estimated that up to 5,000 families will eventually benefit as they move in to United Court before being allocated public housing.
Apart from United Court, SHKP will develop transitional housing at two other sites, respectively in Kam Tin South and Kwu Tung town centre. The three projects will span close to 400,000 square feet and provide 2,000 transitional flats in total, benefitting over 6,000 families.
People-oriented transitional housing
It takes only 10 minutes to walk from the conveniently located United Court to West Rail Line Yuen Long Station or Long Ping Station. Comprehensive community facilities can be found near the project. Apart from lending the lot for a minimum of eight years, SHKP will work on preliminary project planning and basic site formation, and provide property management consultancy upon completion. United Court not only provides a comfortable home, but also creates a harmonious, compassionate, people-oriented community. The Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council will be responsible for project planning, construction, operation and management, and for providing residents with a variety of people-oriented community services, including social enterprise stores and weekend markets. It will also introduce a first-of-its-kind Well-Being Index for United Court, which will assess the health of residents before they move in, during their residency, and before they move out for data analysis and the data will facilitate their provision of services.
A comfortable home and a good job
SHKP and its partner organization will provide residents with vocational training, and SHKP will leverage its experience in developing the district to increase employment opportunities in the area for United Court residents. SHKP now manages over 70 residential and shopping projects in Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai and Tuen Mun. In the coming years, about 400 new staff will be hired. The Group also has several development sites, which require a lot of construction workers. SHKP is happy to consider giving priority to the residents to fill the job vacancies, if they are willing and the right fit can be found.

Invited by the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation, the SHKP Volunteer Team recently helped roll out the Light Up Sports Programme. After receiving training from professional cycling coaches, the volunteers became escorts and pilots to go tandem cycling with the visually impaired.
The volunteers said the very challenging activity required a strong team spirit. The escorts, who led the troop, stayed cautious all the way and kept their bikes from getting too close to each other; the pilots rode in the front seat and communicated closely with their visually impaired partners, displaying physical fitness and excellent cycling skills. The volunteers found the experience completely worthwhile seeing their visually impaired partners enjoying cycling so much.
